TRON Lightcycle / Run Switching to Standby Queue at Magic Kingdom
Hear ye, hear ye – guests visiting the Magic Kingdom at Disney World will not have to mess with a Virtual Queue for TRON Lightcycle / Run after September 8, 2024. TRON has used the special queue since its opening day on April 4, 2023. But beginning on September 9, the attraction will use a regular standby queue just like all the other roller coasters in the Magic Kingdom.
This will be great news for visitors, as Disney currently doesn’t allow you to hold a spot in both the TRON Virtual Queue and the Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Virtual Queue at the same time. But we’re speculating that it means that the Virtual Queue for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, which was only supposed to be in place for “a short time”, is going to hang around longer than originally anticipated.
If we had to guess, we’d say that’s likely because of the attraction’s downtime woes. while VQs can be a pain and they definitely make it hard to plan, they do help prevent situations where guests who have been waiting for hours get “dumped” from the queue when the attraction goes down. Especially on a hot day, nobody wants to wait 2 hours in a standby line for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure (which could easily happen without the Virtual Queue) and then not get to ride.
No changes have been announced for the Virtual Queue at Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, which has now been running for over two years without a standby line.
Are you excited for this change? Will you be more likely to ride TRON without a Virtual Queue? Let us know in the comments!
In line for Tron… it is NOT part of rope drop and the pre-entry line goes from Tron entry back to Tomorrow Land Depot.
Thanks for the report! Really appreciate it.
Taking a family adult trip, six of us, will be there on Monday, Sept 9. I was trying to decide whether to rope drop Tron even if the ride isn’t participating. Just called Disney customer service who stated it would be open for rope drop unless there is a mechanical issue or such. If I remember I’ll let you know. How long would it take for the Touring Plans Lines app to be updated?
Thanks! As for the app, it should be pretty quick. Obviously the month-in forecasts will be a bit more reliable than the first-day forecasts, but I think the team has everything ready to go so that it can be included in plans starting this week. “I think” doing a bit of heavy lifting there. 😉
I just wonder how this will affect rope drop. Right now I think at rope drop people will head to either Snow White or Space Mountain for the first ride. How many people will make Tron the first ride now?
It hasn’t been officially announced that TRON will be added to the Early Entry roster – we assume it will, but we’ll have to wait and see. My guess is that the answer about how many people will put it over Seven Dwarfs or Space Mountain will depend on what standby waits during regular hours look like. 😉
