Walt Disney World Honeymoon Must Do’s

Are you planning a Walt Disney World honeymoon? If so, you’re probably in for a very different experience than other Disney vacations. Sure, you still want to stick to the usual planning advice like using FastPass+, making dining reservations, and following a good touring plan to minimize waits. But there are also some other considerations for special vacations like a honeymoon. With that in mind, here’s my list of must-do’s for your Disney-moon.

Get the celebration pins (and wear them!)

Celebrations are a big deal at Walt Disney World. Whether it’s a birthday, anniversary, or job promotion, Disney cast members will be happy to give you a free pin to wear to designate that you’re celebrating. And since your honeymoon doesn’t happen just every day, don’t be afraid to wear those puppies everywhere you go. You’ll get plenty of congratulations from both cast members and other friendly guests, and occasionally you may be lucky enough to receive something special like a free dessert or drink or some other type of magical moment.

Splurge on Memory Maker

Memory Maker is a photo package that includes unlimited photos and videos from select attractions or restaurants plus pictures from the Disney PhotoPass photographers stationed throughout the parks. It costs $169 when you purchase it in advance. I don’t think it’s a must-have for every trip, especially because photographers are more than willing to take pictures with your phone or camera. However, a honeymoon is one of the few times I would easily say it’s worth the splurge. When the photographers see what you’re celebrating (you are wearing those celebration pins, aren’t you?!), they go above and beyond to get some extra fun and special shots that you’d probably miss out on if you just handed your phone over for a quick snap. They may even put together some ‘extra magic shots’ too. On a vacation as special as your honeymoon, it’s definitely worth having those pictures to cherish for years to come.

Dress the part

Speaking of pictures, you want to look good in those, right? Get yourself some cute bride and groom gear before you go. From t-shirts personalized with your name and wedding date to ‘My favorite Disney Villain Princess is my wife’, you’ve got plenty of options. And don’t forget the bride and groom mouse ears – they make it official!

Sign up for a Disney Honeymoon Registry

If you’re willing to forego the wedding gift of fine china that will inevitably sit around collecting dust most of the year, then a Disney honeymoon registry is another must-do. Through Disney’s registry site, you can register for park or special event tickets, backstage tours, dining experiences, spa services, and in-room celebrations, plus more. Then, just like other wedding gift registries, you can share the link for the registry with friends and family, who then get to pick out the fun honeymoon experiences they want to contribute towards. You get the honeymoon of your dreams, and they get to see all the exciting activities you have planned. The only down side, in my opinion, is that even though Disney says, “Sign up for free”, a small service fee will be deducted from the gifts received. Otherwise, it’s a great way for friends and family to help you kick off your life together.

Consider a resort upgrade

While you’re adding gifts to your honeymoon registry, you may want to consider including a room upgrade to a moderate or deluxe resort. You can certainly still have an amazing honeymoon at the value resorts, but some of the moderate and deluxe resorts have a more grown up, relaxed feel that’s better suited for a honeymoon. Plus, a honeymoon is a perfect time to take advantage of the finer facilities at the higher-end resorts, which brings me to my next point.

Plan resort time

With hundreds of restaurants, attractions, and activities, it’s way too easy to get carried away with trying to see and do it all. So, when you’re planning those FastPasses and advanced dining reservations, make sure you account for plenty of down time back at the resort. Think room service breakfast in bed, an afternoon lounging by the pool, or a glass of wine on the balcony. Take a breather from the crowds and enjoy each other’s company. It is your honeymoon after all!

Treat yourselves to a romantic meal

Along the same lines as resort down time, make sure you set aside at least one night for a romantic dinner. Victoria & Albert’s is typically the go-to recommendation, but even something as simple as a night of drinks and appetizers at Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto would work. There are a variety of romantic options at different resort hotels, Disney Springs, and even a few in the theme parks themselves. The important thing is taking some time to focus on each other and celebrate the start of your new life together.

Pick a souvenir together

Find a souvenir to remember your first vacation together as a married couple. Pick something that makes you both smile! It could be a holiday decoration you put out each year and reminisce over, a piece of art that you can hang somewhere you’ll see it every day, or even a puzzle you put together every anniversary.
