School Will Be In Session As Guests Learn How To Draw Characters from Raya and the Last Dragon at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

A brand new film is coming out soon from Walt Disney Animation called Raya and the Last Dragon. Soon, Guests will be able to take part in two new experiences to celebrate this film. Both experience will be able to be seen at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

First, in the Conservation Station at Rafiki’s Planet Watch, as part of The Animation Experience, Guests will be able to learn how to draw some of the characters in the film. Guests will be able to learn how to draw Raya’s faithful companion Tuk Tuk! (Every Disney character has a fun animal companion!)  Tuk Tuk looks like part-pill bug and part-pug. (I don’t know…I get a more part-chipmunk vibe, at least from what I see.) He’s been Raya’s best friend since she could hold him, according to Disney. Also as part of the experience, you’ll be able to see a behind-the-scenes look at the inspiration for Tuk Tuk which will be shared by both Kelly Marie Tran (voice of Raya) and Awkwafina (voice of Sisu). This new experience will start at The Animation Experience on February 22.

But that’s not the only thing themed around Raya and the Last Dragon that Guests can see. Over at the Discovery Island Stage, Guests will also be able to marvel at a 40-ton sand sculpture celebrating the new film. The display will feature Raya, Tuk Tuk, Sisu the last dragon and the Ongi, all set in the fantasy world of Kumandra. This sculpture will be created by a team of two talented artists over 24 hours, as they build and carve the display made entirely from sand. Guests will have the opportunity to watch the artisans at work from February 19-21 and the carving will remain on display at Disney’s Animal Kingdom through the end of March.

With the pandemic still creating issues for the theater-going experience, Disney has shared that they will still continue with their plan to release the film, but this time there’s a twist. See, the film will still be released in select theaters, but it will also be available to watch on Disney+, for an additional fee. Raya and the Last Dragon will be available to watch beginning March 5.
