NEW: Introducing Lines 2.0 — What to Expect!

We’ve got some exciting news to share. The TouringPlans Lines app – the highest-rated Disney World app in iTunes and Google Play – is getting a major update. Everything you know and love from Lines is found in Lines 2.0, with a refreshed look and some amazing new features rolling out at launch and in future releases.

Here’s some of what you can expect:

  • A modern user interface with support for swiping and touch gestures
  • Faster response times for in-app features, such as getting and submitting wait times
  • A much easier way to create and manage touring plans on mobile devices
  • Restaurant and ride ratings with context that says whether it’s worth your time and money

Of course features that TouringPlans users love including Lines Chat, “Ride Now/Wait/Ride Anytime” ratings, attraction information, real-time updates, searchable menus, and more are still an integral part of the new app.

We’ll have a lot more details to share soon, but in the meantime, enjoy some screen shots from the new Lines 2.0.

We’ve submitted the new app to Apple’s App Store, and it should be approved in a few days; we’ll follow up with Google Play within the next couple weeks.  Your phone should update your app automatically.  The classic Lines 1.0 interface will still be available for some period of time at https://m.touringplans.com/wdw.

Are you excited about this new release? What features would you be most excited to see? Let us know what you think in the comments.

  • Anxiously waiting for the Android version to drop! Going “home” in Feb! Looks great and love the graphics!

  • This looks amazing. Any word on the Android version. My app is still the old version. Thank you.

  • I just came across this while planning a WDW trip the first week of October. Any chance the new version will land on google play before then?

  • The version at https://m.touringplans.com/wdw will be available “for some period of time”. When it goes away, will there be a replacement online version available for those of us who primarily access lines on a computer and not on a smart phone?

  • Updated version looks great! I’m a little confused over the restaurant rankings though. Some say of 103, some of 107, while others have of 169 in WDW.
Which one is it? I can’t seem to determine a rationale behind them.

While rides are easy to know where they are, is it possible to show where each of these are in the parks?

  • I love the updated version!!!

  • Exciting news! I look forward to using the new app. One request…. could the map that is available in the touring plan printout be incorporated into the app? Now that I’m a “liner” with multiple trips under my belt and the park layout memorized, that isn’t necessary. However, as a first time Touring Plans user, I remember being disappointed I needed a printout to know which way to go from one attraction to the next.

  • Looks awesome. Can’t wait to try it out. I assume we’ll keep the badges?

  • We leave Saturday for 2 weeks. Looking forward to trying it!!!

  • Looks great! Can’t wait to use it! Heading to the parks Friday.. any chance it will be active then?

  • It would be great to see how crowded certain areas are similar to google maps red for traffic So we know if we should head to narrow walkways or go to shops instead.

  • Heading to The World next week. Looking forward to 2.0! Where is the best place for feedback?

  • Yay! Thanks so much! Agree with stopping timer after ride since I have messed it up so much I finally stopped submitting wait times! Also I’d love to see it link to the transportation portion of MDE (Bus wait times etc..) and the disney posted wait times.

  • I’m so glad I renewed my TP subscription! Thanks Len and all your team, can’t wait to try. If you ever need or want to get the French-speaking market (French Canadian, France, etc…) I’m your gal!!

  • Looks great!! Can’t wait to try this out!

    Thanks for all you do!

  • Looking forward to trying it out.

Feature I would love is to switch (or at least have the option for) the STOP TIMER button for the ride timer to be pressed after you get off the ride, rather than when you are about to get on. I tend to forget or be busy with kids etc right before we get on the ride. Would be much easier to stop it after we get off, and I think just as good for data as rides are pretty much always the same duration.

  • What is the anticipated Android release date? Next trip is 18-27 Sept and would love to test it out.

  • This is another reason I and so many of us subscribe. Thanks!!!

  • Does this include the Universal Lines app as well? Looks great!

  • Hurry up i’m going next week!! come on google!!!

  • Will this be available for iPhone by Sept. 6th?

  • This is awesome!! I hope it will be available for my trip next week 9/8)!!!

  • Glad to see that you’re keeping the browser access for those of us with older phones that aren’t apple or android.

  • Excited for the update, hoping to use it in October! The app has been a life saver for our last two trips and we owe allot of Magic to those behind the scene and those that help update wait times in park!

  • What kind of linking are you interested in?

  • I’m going to guess the answer to that will be ‘no’ since Disney is supposed to be releasing their own app of this kind as part of MDE later this year (which I won’t trust because I think they will be using the plans in their app as a way to control and disperse crowds instead of making sure the user gets the most out of their day).

  • Looks great!
I can’t wait to try it out in real time in the parks, whenever that may happen for us again 🙁

Any way to have it link with My Disney? That way we wouldn’t need to have both apps open and chewing up precious battery!

    Keep up the good work!

  • Ah man… I’m going next week and it looks like I’ll miss it for android. Anyone wanna send me an apk?

  • So excited about this! I was using Lines on Monday at MK and thinking about how dated it looks. It’s totally valuable, but it has the look and feel of something right out of the 90s. If you need local beta testers, I’m in!

  • Assuming all true for the DLR version of the app as well? Really excited for the changes, and very much appreciate all the work you put into this. Happy to be a subscriber!

  • The next couple of releases are already set: in-park navigation through GPS, and a test of augmented reality capabilities. We’re also looking at minor updates for things like emojis in chat.

I’m not sure if we’ll do an Apple Watch version. I’m very, very excited for Apple Glasses, whenever they’re released.

  • Battery life seems good. It helps that battery technology is getting better, too.

One of the things we want to see is how well the text reads in the parks. I think it’s pretty good based on our tests. If enough people think we need a ‘high contrast’ version, we can add that as an option.

  • Sounds (and looks) like a great upgrade – congrats to the whole team!

  • Congrats on the new app. I wish I had a trip sooner than 10 months away to use it on.

  • Excited for this but wish it was ready for my trip next week. As it is, if it is updated, my wife will have it on her fruit phone but my robot phone will take a few weeks… It looks really awesome, though. Good job, folks!

  • Those are great news and the app needed a massive update to have new interface and features.
    Can wait to try it!!

Would it be possible to now expect an Apple Watch app anytime soon?

  • Yeah! So excited to hear this. Thanks for listening to user feedback while performing the updates too. You guys rock!

  • Yay! One of the nice things about 1.0 was it’s simplicity which (I believe) helped battery life when open/utilized all day in parks. How does 2.0 compare and will dark mode or other battery saving features be offered?

  • Awesome! Will the new version not close chat when I click on link within chat? For the past 7 or 8 years that I have been a subscriber, that’s been my biggest issue. If someone posts a link, ir closes the app, and takes me to the link. I can’t toggle back to my app to where I was when I left. If that gets fixed, it would be AMAZEBALLS! (Android user)

    • I just tested it and it seems to keep the app open when following links.

  • I can’t wait to try this out!!!

  • Looks fantastic! I remember version 1 was a little plain looking with few graphics and that often times was criticized, but it was purposely done that way to speed it up. Has version 2.0 shown any signs of slow down while testing it in the Disney parks?

    • In-park speed was one of our core concerns. We’ve built the back-end data feeds to be fast, and I don’t think that’s going to be an issue. The one thing that shows some load time on the first use is the display of restaurant icons. Those might take a couple of seconds to load the first time they’re seen. Let me know what you think of the speed when you use it.

  • I am so excited for this!
