Official Boarding Group Procedure for Rise of the Resistance at Disney’s Hollywood Studios
The boarding process for Disney’s Hollywood Studios’ newest attraction, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance has been a bit dizzying. With many not knowing how the process will work until they get to the park, and because of that, many kept getting to the park earlier and earlier to ensure that they got their chance to ride this thrilling new attraction. Now, Disney has officially shared how the boarding process will seemingly go, from here on out.
First, moving forward, the virtual queue for Rise of the Resistance will now not be available until the published park opening time. (Before, the virtual queue was available prior to official park opening time.) Guests must be in Disney’s Hollywood Studios to access the virtual queue and will be able to do so by using the My Disney Experience app. Once the boarding groups run out, they run out….however, there may be the opportunity to join a backup boarding group. Backup boarding groups will only be called if all of the initial planned boarding groups have been called back and there is capacity for more riders that evening. If Disney is able to accommodate boarding groups that evening, Guests will be notified through the My Disney Experience app by a push notification (if enabled).
Guests may be able to enter the park early only to enjoy limited locations, like grabbing a Starbucks beverage at Trolley Car Cafe or shopping at Keystone Clothiers. In addition, all other park attractions will not be open until the published park opening time. (Again, before other attractions would open early for Guests to enjoy.)
This new process for riding Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance seems to be how things will go through the holidays, however, this could also all change tomorrow. Want to learn more about how quickly the boarding process runs out? Take a look at Steve’s article which shares the breakdown of the data for the boarding groups.
so your boarding group is called … approximately how long do you wait in the line then?
How long do you have to return to the ride once your boarding group is called? Trying to determine whether leaving the park makes sense.
2 hours
Thanks!
So once your boarding number is called, you have two hours to return to the ride? Also, the higher up your boarding number is, means you will be called to board later in the day? Is it easier to switch around FastPass+ now because of this and the rearranging of the tiers?
Does your entire party need to be in the park when you go on the app to get a boarding group or can one person go early to get it for the group? Thanks!
Your entire party must be in the park and one person should have control , or share control , over each member in the party.
Also DME needs to be the latest version.
As of 1-5-20 it’s version 5.6
Is there any way to intentionally get a later boarding group? We’re hoping to swing by HS first thing and get a *later* boarding group, go to Animal Kingdom to use our fastpasses (for Flight of Passage and others), then return to HS in the afternoon.
Alternatively, does anyone know what happens if you “miss” your boarding group and try to ride later the day? For example, if we get boarding group 15 and that window is 9-11am, then we show up at 2pm and explain that we had fastpasses elsewhere, will be allowed to ride?
How do you identify and add people to your boarding group?
