With DVC points to use or lose, my husband and I made a trip to Walt Disney World. During this trip, he been working remotely and won’t be going to the parks. I convinced him that Disney’s Saratoga Springs resort, with easy access to the restaurants at Disney Springs, was the best resort for our needs on this trip.

I have stayed at Saratoga Springs resort more than a dozen times, but my husband has never been with me on those outings. He was sold on the location, but was slightly skeptical of the musty-looking, horsey decor he saw in photos of the Saratoga rooms. It was a wonderful surprise when we walked in to see that we were in a newly renovated room, with updated furniture and fixtures, new flooring, modern appliances and cabinet finishes, and brighter fabrics.

For a look at the old version of the decor take a look at the photos in this Saratoga Springs overview.

Here’s a tour:

BEDROOM

The bedroom includes a king-sized bed, television, side chair with ottoman, dresser, and nightstands. There is now room underneath the bed to stow suitcases. The ceiling fan is now a sleek, three-blade model, and there are copious USB and power outlets on either side of the bed.

LIVING ROOM

The living room area has a flat screen television (larger than the one in the bedroom), a couch with a pull-down queen-sized bed, a trunk-like coffee table (on wheels for easy movability) that converts into a table, and a dining table with a bench and two side chairs. There’s also a fold-down bed under the television.

KITCHEN

One-bedroom villas have full kitchens, complete with a refrigerator, oven and cooktop, microwave, dishwasher, coffee maker, toaster, and related dishes and cookware. A nearby space holds a full-size washer/dryer.

BATHROOM

The bathroom has three separate spaces: a room with just the toilet, a room with the shower stall and a sink, and a room with a tub and larger vanity with a sink. There have been real changes in the bathroom amenities. The tub no longer has jacuzzi-style jets, there is a rainforest-style showerhead, there are large dispensers of toiletries, and a magnifying mirror has been added.

  • This is such a weird question but are there real coffee mugs in the rooms?

    • There are real mugs in all the 1, 2, and 3 bedroom villas. Disposable only in the studios.

  • Thank you for the great information about SSR. I noticed Mr. Coffee as the coffee maker, would you know if it is a 8-12 cup basket or cone filter?

    • @Heather That’s a 12-cup machine.

  • My daughter used the mantle under the tv for her stuff and came some in the bathroom under the cabinet, we had no issues with it at all.

  • I don’t unpack everything so it really isn’t THAT terrible for some people 😉

  • Is there any storage for clothing in the living room of the one bedroom suite? I am an early riser and would hat to go into the bedroom to find clothes while my mom is still sleeping? The old tv cabinets were very beat up but had some decent storage

    • @Allison There is no dresser or other dedicated clothing storage space in the living room now.

I often find myself in the situation you describe, waking up and heading to the parks much earlier than my husband. I ended up selecting my clothes the night before and leaving them in the bathroom or in the cubbies next to the couch so as not to disturb him by opening drawers in the bedroom.

      • This is terrible. Where are the people sleeping in the living room supposed to put their clothes?!

      • There is a full closet in the bathroom alcove accessible independently from the living room …a fine place to hang and access clothes. Also you could set up a luggage stand with your suitcase there for access to things that can’t be hung or you could pay for a 2 bedroom.

  • Totally by mad! Sorry, I meant studio, not suite 🙁 Thank you so much for sharing all the links and information! Have a great summer!!

  • Is there any picture of the renovated suites ay SSR that you know of? We are going in June with our 4 daughters and have reserved a 1 bedroom plus a suite and the girls are wondering what their room will look like, well 3 of them, the youngest will be staying in our 1 bedroom with us. TIA!

  • The remodeled 1 bedroom, we’re in the Grandstand, is nice but boring. I’m not certain why the furniture, couch, bedroom chair, are clad in such light colored fabric. It’ll show dirt & grime quickly! We miss the desk, with the chair, and the eat in counter

  • Also do all the 1 bedrooms have the option of a pull down couch and tv bed?

    Reply
    • All the renovated one bedrooms at Saratoga have the pull down couch bed and TV bed. Depending on when you arrive, you might find an unrenovated room with just a standard sofa bed.

  • Are all the rooms updated at SSR or just some of them?

    • As of April 2021, the renovations have been completed in the Springs, Congress Park, and Paddock sections of the resort. The Grandstand area is about 3/4 renovated. The Carousel rooms will be updated beginning this summer.

  • Can anyone tell me the brand of mattress they use in one of these rooms? We just stayed and it was so comfortable. I should have checked!

  • We just stayed in a 2 BR as well with 4 of us for a Girl’s [modified] Food & Wine Trip! It was perfect & I would use all my points to do it all again without any hesitation!! I love SSR & the new upgrade. So if no one else likes it, then that means more availability for me! Thanks! 😉

  • We were in a 2-bedroom last week that had received the upgrades and absolutely loved it! The kitchen was small, but roomy enough for what we needed. And I felt like they incorporated more Disney touches in the Saratoga rooms than they did in the Old Key West ones. I would have paid for the pictures over the bed – they’re beautiful race scenes in greyscale with the characters in soft colors.

  • I love the clean lines and the new convertible sofa, but hate the colors. Congratulations Disney, you found a way to make a small kitchen look even smaller.

    The unique Disney design…

  • The rooms look nice, but boring. I feel like all the resorts that are getting redesigned rooms look like any old hotel you could find all the US. They untie Disney design is missing to me. All the rooms could be at almost all the hotels, nothing really distinguishes one room from another. This SSR room could easily fit at RR, BCV, or BWV. Blah.
