Animal Kingdom Quick Service Lunch and Dinner – Ranked!

Animal Kingdom has some of the best Quick Service dining at Disney World. And if you’re just looking for chicken fingers and air conditioning, you can find that too. So, what’s where and what’s good? We’ve ranked the six dining options for Quick Service lunch and dinner at Animal Kingdom based on their ratings in TouringPlans user surveys. Looking for breakfast? Let’s start with some general tips. First, Quick Service locations get very busy around lunch; arrive by 11:30 or closer to 1 pm to avoid spending a long time in line. Mobile Ordering in advance can help, but Mobile Order pickup gets busy at peak times too. The dinner crowd tends to be lighter at Animal Kingdom, but some locations aren’t open for dinner except when the parks are very crowded. (Harambe Market, we’re looking at you.)

#1: Satu’li Canteen (Pandora)

Found in Pandora, the World of Avatar, TouringPlans readers rank Satu’li Canteen in the top tier of all Disney World Quick Service restaurants, with a whopping 97% positive rating on surveys. But it’s not only us: it’s #18 out of 485 “Quick Bites” in the Orlando area on TripAdvisor, too. The cuisine is global fusion, and Satu’li Canteen pioneered the “Build a Bowl” model at Disney World.

You’ll pick a carb or vegetable base, a protein to cover it, and a sauce to add (even more) flavor to the whole shebang. Combination bowls are available for those who just can’t choose between the yummy protein options. But for my money, the Cheeseburger Steamed Pods (Bao Buns) are a sleeper pick: think steak-n-cheese flavors in a bao. (See the menu here) Survey comments mention that the food is “craveable”, “amazing” …  and also that many of the options are pretty healthy for theme park food.

#2: Harambe Market (Africa)

Harambe Market is in Africa, and it’s one of the best-themed dining locations in Animal Kingdom. The all-outdoor seating area feels a bit like a market plaza; there are umbrella- and carport-shaded tables with bench or chair-style seating. Although 95% of Harambe Market diners give it a thumbs up, it often closes in the late afternoon before dinner time.

Sadly, the opening-day curry-style sausages are now only on the sign, but the current menu will still leave your taste buds happy.

The food is mostly a mix of rice bowls and salads; with sides like Kachumbari Tomato Salad or grilled corn and black-eyed peas, it’s light, refreshing food that feels like it’s made for hot weather. (See the menu here) Survey comments routinely mention the speed of order preparation and Mobile Order pickup, so if you’re in a big hurry, this might be your spot.

#3: Flame Tree Barbecue (Discovery Island)

Right on the Dinoland corner of Discovery Island, Flame Tree has been well-loved for over a decade. The signature BBQ sauce that kept them in the top ranks of Disney World Quick Service was discontinued several years ago, but 94% of diners still come away happy.

What’s on the menu? Well, barbecue meats, barbecue meats, barbecue meats, baked macaroni & cheese, and a smokehouse chicken salad. (See the menu here) All that barbecue can make for pretty heavy eating on a hot day, but most dishes are large enough to share. “Good flavor and plenty of food” is typical of survey comments, but if you’re looking for lighter fare, this is not it.

#4: Yak & Yeti Local Food Cafes (Asia)

Yak & Yeti Local Food Cafes didn’t make the cut to the top half of this list, but that isn’t because it’s not good. 92% of diners give it a thumbs up on surveys! If you’re not looking for a full meal, the order window fronts the road in Asia, making it easy to walk away with a side of Pork Egg Rolls for a munch-as-you-go snack.

Yak & Yeti Local Food Cafes seating is around the back – it says so, right on the sign.

The dishes are Asian-inspired, with selections like Honey Sesame Chicken, Sweet & Sour Tempura Shrimp, and Teriyaki Chicken Salad that would feel at home on any mall food court menu. (See the menu here) But the quality is very high, and even the fried food doesn’t feel as heavy as it seems that it should.

#5: Pizzafari (Discovery Island)

Discovery Island is the only land in Animal Kingdom with two Quick Service restaurants. Flame Tree holds down the Dinoland corner, and you’ll find Pizzafari on the Africa side. Compared to the number four spot, satisfaction takes a dive here with Pizzafari coming in at just over 80%.

You’re probably not surprised to hear that the menu features pizza, but there’s also a salad, a pasta, and a panini-ish dish. (See the menu here) Reviews feature words like “decent”, “OK”, or in one case, “cafeteria food”. It’s not going to win any awards, but if you’ve got picky eaters, it might make them happier than some other Animal Kingdom locations.

#6: Restaurantosaurus (Dinoland)

The fare at Dinoland’s Restaurantosaurus will make you happy if you’re not out for any of that new-fangled high-falutin’ fusion food, and are instead looking for a plain old burger and fries. Or chicken nuggets and fries. Or a chili-cheese hot dog and fries. You’re getting the picture, right? See the menu here.

Theming wins the day at Restaurantosaurus

Restaurantosaurus fields just under 80% thumbs up on surveys. But I think the numbers don’t tell the whole story. Enough survey comments say things like “surprisingly good food” to make me suspicious that there are some grudge ratings from people who wanted to eat more interesting food in Animal Kingdom and got outvoted.

  • Flame Tree FTW
1/2 smoked chicken (almost always expertly slow cooked,) baked beans and coleslaw, 1 Safari Amber draft.
An easy split between two people, lots of lakeside shaded seating, exceptional garden setting, and character boats cruising by occasionally.
