25 Drinks of Christmas – Day 3: YUB NUB at Oga’s Cantina

The Christmas season is our absolute favorite time of the year. Growing up, one of the little things I loved most was getting an Advent calendar and counting down the days until Santa would be coming down the chimney. As I grew older, I had to leave Advent calendars in the rear view mirror,* but I still miss that daily countdown building anticipation to the big day. So, we’re going to start a virtual Advent calendar here at TouringPlans. For 2022, we are going to countdown our favorite drinks at Walt Disney World and the Universal Orlando Resort.

Criteria: Drinks can be alcoholic or nonalcoholic. Drinks can come from any venue on the property. Bonus points are awarded for the atmosphere where the drink is served. Any drink with glow cubes is immediately disqualified. Ready? Let’s go!

The Drink – Yub Nub
Location – Oga’s Cantina in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge

The atmosphere at Oga’s Cantina is off-the-charts for a Star Wars fan with lots of great details.

The little details truly make Oga’s Cantina stand out. In the photo above note the use of IG-88 (Empire Strike Back) and IG-11 (The Mandalorian) heads, along with Luke Skywalker’s lightsaber hilt as a beer tap. (photo by Michael Carelli)

Yub Nub – Ingredients: Malibu pineapple rum, Sailor Jerry spiced rum, citrus juices, and passion fruit. What makes the Yub Nub extra special is the world class souvenir cup you can have it served in that depicts the Battle of Endor from Return of the Jedi. Speaking as a die-hard Star Wars fan, this is one of my favorite souvenir cups that Disney has ever produced.

Let’s check out some other offerings at Oga’s Cantina.

Carbon Freeze, Bespin Fizz, and Fuzzy Tauntaun.
The Outer Rim – Patrón silver tequila, Stirrings pomegranate liqueur, lime juice, pure cane sugar, with black salt and exotic fruit purée. (photo by Michael Carelli)
The Carbon Freeze is a fun gimmick for the whole family as it is essentially a clever way to serve flavored Powerade (with Green Apple Popping Pearls for added effect). It reminds me of bringing friends and family to Springfield USA for the first time and getting them a Flaming Moe. Yeah, the Flaming Moe is basically just orange soda, but the way it is presented is so unique to the theme park world and it becomes an experience that you take back home and tell people about.
Batuu Bits – Crispy galaxy snack bits with spiced chermoula dip. Great option for a snack while at Oga’s Cantina.
However, the Happabore Sampler needs to be locked away in the vault with The Star Wars Holiday Special.

Disney’s first Star Wars attraction at DHS was Star Tours, and the original pilot for our StarSpeeder in that attraction was named Captain R-3X (affectionately known as “Rex.”) You can now see Rex inside Oga’s Cantina as he is the house DJ.

This alien being is a Worrt, and was briefly seen in Return of the Jedi. It reminded me of growing up and collecting the Star Wars action figures and after a certain point the entire line of figures became so successful they started making them for characters who had like one second “blink and you miss them” screen time. Oga’s Cantina – and Galaxy’s Edge in general – is loaded with small touches like worrt for the Star Wars super fans but can also be appreciated by someone who hasn’t seen a single frame of the Skywalker Saga. See you tomorrow for the next entry into the 25 Drinks of Christmas Countdown, where we are going to head over to Jurassic Park. If you had fun, be sure to check out any of our other fun series including Theme Park Hills to Die On, the adventures of David & Derek (theme park’s Goofus & Gallant,) or the famous (infamous?) Theme Park Turkeys of the Year awards. for your listening pleasure, check out the Parkscope Podcast. Your humble author can also be seen producing typos at an inhuman rate on Twitter: @derekburgan

The 25 Drinks of Christmas series couldn’t be done without an All Star team behind us including world class photographers Michael Carelli, Brandon Glover, Scott Sanders, and Hedghehog’s Corner. The drink listing came from a double-secret blue ribbon panel comprised of SAT SIX Fun Squaders including: Megan Stump, Nitro230,The Man Formerly Known as @DrunkAtDisney, Bethany Vinton, Parkscope Joe and Parkscope Nick. As always, Digital Maestro Scott Walker was the cherry on top of the sundae.

*That is an absolutely lie. I still buy an advent calendar every year with chocolates in it, and I also buy an annual box of Christmas Crunch, but we’ll keep that between us.
