Couple of Quick Refurbishments for Walt Disney World
Late summer and early fall are popular times for refurbishment work at Walt Disney World. This summer is no exception, with some previous refurbishment announcements made earlier last month. Now, there are a few new announcements of refurbishment work being done in the parks.
First off, Space Mountain at the Magic Kingdom will have a few brief closures during the month of September. These will be quick two-to-three-day periods. The dates are
- September 3 – 5, reopening on September 6
- September 10 – 12, reopening on September 13
- September 23 – 26, reopening on September 27
In addition, Spaceship Earth at Epcot will see a week-long refurbishment from August 18 – 25, reopening on August 26.

Just wondering how far in advance disney puts out it’s refurbishment list. We are thinking about going to Disneyland in February 2014 and are already checking flights and rooms( the earlier you book the better deals you get). We went last year and ended up having 8 rides shut down while we were there. Hoping to avoid this again but we can’t afford to only book 6 weeks adhead. Flights from Canada get more expensive the closer to you get to when you want to fly. 6 months ahead is the best time to book, is there any way to find out what will be closed that far inadvance?
Unless there is a really long current refurbishment underway (for example, Disneyland’s Big Thunder Mountain has been down since January and will not reopen until October 2013), the answer to your question is simple: No, Disney does not release refurbishment details 6 months in advance.
As Rikki suggests, though, rides are more likely to be closed during “slower” times of year like September. In contrast, few rides are likely to be under repair during busy times like Christmas, Thanksgiving, and summer. I would expect some closures in February, but 8 rides sounds abnormally high for any time of year.
