Summary
The French Market features comfort food with a Cajun-Creole flair and periodic entertainment from one or more of the roving park musicians or groups. The cafeteria-style service line becomes bottlenecked at the beverage station; see if you can skip to an open cashier at the end if you don’t need drinks.
Setting and Atmosphere
In the heart of New Orleans Square, The French Market suggests a laid-back Southern vibe with lots of wrought iron under the shade of large, mature ficus trees. There’s a small indoor dining area, but the best seating is outdoors on a large patio, covered with umbrellas and shadowed further by the trees.
House Specialties
The menu features a roasted half chicken with citrus and Cajun spices, pulled pork, French Dip, or Shrimp Po' Boy sandwiches. The jambalaya is a savory alternative that hits the spot on cooler winter days. Most meals come with a side of rice or mashed potatoes and corn bread.
Other Recommendations
Hearty soups; a few fresh and flavorful salads.
