In recent years, Magic Kingdom has been open for 24 continuous hours on the Friday before Memorial Day, opening at 6:00am and not closing until 6:00am the following day. The name changes slightly each year, and the party is used to "kick-off" the summer and its special activities.

Although not all attractions operate for the full 24 hours, there is plenty to do, and special merchandise, food, and characters are usually available. The event sees large crowds that start in late afternoon and continue deep into the night.

In 2015, the 24-Hour Summer Kick-Off Celebration starts at 6:00am on Friday, May 22, at Magic Kingdom. "Child-friendly" costumes are allowed.
