Long home to large tour groups and families filled with picky eaters in search of a simple meal, Planet Hollywood Observatory continues to serve a niche clientele in the newly-revitalized Disney Springs. The food, though, even with a new injection of life from Chef Guy Fieri’s over-the-top influence, still barely ekes by as passable, but now features even higher price tags. With so many new options for simple-but-quality food just a few steps away at Homecomin’, Blaze Pizza, and D-Luxe Burgers, the jury’s out on whether Planet Hollywood Observatory is worth the price of a visit.

Setting and Atmosphere

Recently updated to the “Planet Hollywood Observatory”, the restaurant’s new modernized design highlights function over form, with far less of its iconic movie memorabilia adorning the walls. Wall projections and a house DJ take center stage in the typically loud and busy main dining room, but a new outdoor patio offers seating with a view, overlooking Disney Springs in a much quieter atmosphere. Stargazer Lounge, located outside on the ground floor rear of the restaurant, offers live music on select nights alongside a colorful constellation of alcoholic concoctions.

House Specialties

Planet Hollywood’s signature chicken crunch returns, and remains one of the solid options on the menu. Over-the-top burgers now reign supreme on the celebrity chef Guy Fieri-influenced menu, with options including one topped with the restaurant’s specialty mac and cheese, or “The Mayor of Flavortown”, a burger topped with the fixings from an entire Reuben sandwich. Deep-fried lasagna, St. Louis-style barbecue ribs served on a mini picnic table, and the High Roller appetizer sampler served on a non-functioning Ferris wheel round out the highlights of the restaurant’s all-day menu.

Other Recommendations

Salads, nachos, pasta, and steaks, much like what you’d find at your neighborhood chain restaurant, comprise much of the menu. Highly-decorated milkshakes and individual desserts-in-a-jar sit on the tamer end of the dessert menu, but a 6-scoop ice cream brownie sundae or 12-scoop mystery ice cream and gelato challenge are also available to dare adventurous guests’ palates and stomachs.
