Summary

A hybrid fast-casual/table-service restaurant, The Polite Pig offers a bit more than your standard quick-service spot. Barbecue smoked on-site is the name of the game, but the side dishes are not to be missed. Skip the sandwiches and split a few entrées (the pulled pork and ribs are our favorites) with sides; it’s the best bang for your buck and offers a chance to try more of the outstanding appetizers (house-made giant pretzels, smoked wings) and delicious desserts.

Setting and Atmosphere

Located adjacent to Disney Springs’ Lime Garage, Polite Pig entices diners with the signature smoked meat smell as soon as they enter the shopping district. Inside, the restaurant is fairly sparse in decoration, with only a few reminders of the titular animal on the walls and brass pig’s feet sprinkled throughout the restaurant’s floor. The true star of the show, both inside and outside, is the restaurant’s signature Bourbon Bar, which serves a variety of moderate to high-end whiskeys and bourbons, as well as cocktails and wines served on tap, batch-made fresh daily.

The outdoor patio features ample covered seating, a must in Florida weather (with heaters often placed outside during “true winter”. Servers will deliver your food to any table, inside or out, as well as at the bar, where the full menu is available. Once seated, servers will provide silverware and are more than happy to guide you through the ample sauce selection (the black pepper and mustard sauces are especially good), as well as provide drink refills and an order of dessert.

House Specialties

Southern barbecue staples (pulled pork, ribs, smoked chicken); specialty veggie sides (barbecue cauliflower, grilled corn, whiskey-caramel Brussels sprouts); bourbon bar; cocktails and local beers on tap; homemade cakes and pies for dessert.

Fresh, local produce reign in the side dishes, with the BBQ cauliflower with paprika sour cream, roast beets with goat cheese and orange, southern potato salad, and whisky-caramel-kissed brussels sprouts far surpassing the less-than-stellar staples like the mac and cheese and grilled corn.

Other Recommendations

Salad options are pricy but enough for two adults here, and can be jazzed up with any range of smoked meat options for a more filling meal. Be sure to grab a slice of orange blossom pie, or sample the behemoth half-pound locally-made Gideon’s Bakehouse signature chocolate chip cookies, one of Polite Pig’s best sellers (selling out every day, even with a per guest limit in place).
