Mine-Cart Madness is Universal's roller coaster take on the classic Donkey Kong arcade game. As you recall in Donkey Kong, you're required to jump over barrels that are thrown your way. And Universal has preserved that aspect of the game in that your ride vehicle appears to jump over various sections of broken ride track. If you're viewing the ride while standing in Super Nintendo World, it's a clever visual trick.

Your ride vehicle doesn't actually "jump" over anything, of course. Rather, Universal's created a two-level ride vehicle. The bottom part, which actually rides the rails, includes a vertical arm several feet tall that attaches to the seating area you're in.

That seating area is designed with fake wheels designed to look like they're riding another set of tracks, also suspended several feet above the real tracks. The result is that it looks like you're riding something you're not.

To Universal's credit, the illusion of jumping tracks extends to your on-board experience, not just something that's visible from the sides. While you're on the ride you'll see what appears to be oncoming, twisted and broken sets of tracks. You avoid these at the last minute by those jumps.
