At a Glance

This updated version of The Little Mermaid is the best version Disney's put on.

The plot will be familar to anyone who's seen the movie. It's a straightforward re-telling of the movie's major plot points, in under 20 minutes. Most of the story involves a live actress as Ariel and a live actor as Eric, working with puppets and screen projections in the place of the story's other characters.

The show's strengths are in its stage 'look' and artistic direction. The colors are beautiful and the special effects are convincing. One of the first big "wow" effects you'll see, for example, is Ariel sitting upright and using her tail to "swim" across the stage. If you look closely you can figure out how it's done. But sit back and enjoy the show.

The show is substantially more popular than previous versions, with waits of 60 minutes or more possible. Your best bet is to see it in the late afternoon, when guests are leaving the park or starting to eat dinner.
