Description And Comments

VelociCoaster is the newest rollercoaster added to Islands of Adventure, replacing the defunct Triceratops Encounter attraction.

The ride's story is that guests are among the first riders on a new, first-of-its-kind attraction inside a velociraptor pen. In the queue, Dr. Henry Wu (played by BD Wong) guides us through the raptor genetic breeding process. Operations manager Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard) reassures us the rollercoaster through the paddock is perfectly safe – raptor trainer Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) is less convinced.

The ride experience is best described as a coaster of two halves: the first is a twisty half similar to Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure, but with inversions, and the second half is full of speed and daring maneuvers over the water, like The Incredible Hulk Coaster.

VelociCoaster is intense, yet smooth – the intensity comes from the airtime and crazy maneuvers and not the roughness of the track. The only thing holding you in is a lap bar, which makes it comfortable one yet thrilling thanks to the air time, speed and the two separate launches.

Touring Tips

The attraction’s entrance is along the lagoon’s waterfront.

Jurassic World VelociCoaster Wait Times

This chart shows you roughly how long you'll wait for Jurassic World VelociCoaster when you visit on a day with a given Universal's Islands of Adventure Crowd Level. The blue bars represent the average "peak" wait time (that is, how long the line will be at its busiest). The bottom and top black lines represent the range of peak wait times to expect (for you fellow nerds out there: it's the 5th percentile and 95th percentile of peak wait times). Please note that these are estimates, and for a better forecast for your travel dates, see Jurassic World VelociCoaster Wait Times.

Special Comments

  • We rate this attraction as Not To Be Missed.
  • This attraction has a minimum-height requirement of 51 inches.
  • This attraction may be frightening for children.
  • This attraction offers rider swap.

A feature unique to the VelociCoaster queue fixes many of the complaints of other Universal thrill coasters: lockers. Instead of storing items prior to entering the queue, guests will store their loose items in double-sided lockers before boarding. Once finished with their rides, guests approach the lockers from the opposite side to retrieve their items (see diagram below). Len thinks this should become the standard design for all ride lockers going forward.
