What should you know?

Gloria Estefan and her husband-producer, Emilio, created this large restaurant that marries salsa music with Cuban cuisine. Start with a mojito, then try a classic Cuban dish—it may not be as authentic as Miami’s Cuban restaurants, but if you’re craving hearty dishes with beans, rice, fried sweet plantains, roast chicken or pork, or slow-cooked beef, Bongos fills the bill.

What’s it like inside?

Bongos is one of the Downtown Disney originals that remains untouched during the big makeover to Disney Springs. The three-story pineapple icon and beautiful tropical decor—banana-leaf roof, banana-leaf ceiling fans, and palm tree–shaped columns—take diners on a trip to Havana. Hand-painted murals and mosaics lend an artistic air, and an open wraparound porch provides pleasant outdoor dining.

What are the specialties?

Cuban sandwich, Cuban-style skirt steak, and ropa vieja (shredded beef in tomato sauce).
