Downtown Disney Overview

Downtown Disney, verdant and landscaped by day, pops alive with neon and glitter at night. The complex offers more than 300,000 square feet of specialty shopping, clubs, restaurants, and a movie theater. Many of the restaurants offer entertainment in addition to dining, including Ralph Brennan’s Jazz Kitchen. ESPN Zone is a sports bar and restaurant with dozens of giant TV screens. Other restaurant options include the Naples Ristorante e Pizzeria, Tortilla Jo’s Mexican restaurant, Earl of Sandwich, and jungle-themed dining at the Rainforest Cafe. Two different Starbucks locations serve all the chain’s beverages and sandwiches and offer free Wi-Fi, phone charging stations, and full loyalty card benefits.

If you’re not hungry, there’s always shopping and a 12-theater AMC Movieplex with IMAX 3-D to keep you occupied. A 40,000-square-foot World of Disney store, the second largest on the planet, anchors the shopping scene. Other retailers include Sanuk, a shoe store; Ana and Elsa's Boutique, a store packed with Frozen merchandise; cosmetics at Sephora; and Something Silver, specializing in jewelry. For an artistic memento, WonderGround Gallery showcases edgy (and expensive) reinterpretations of classic Disney images, often signed by their creators. LEGO Imagination Center features interactive play tables with LEGO bricks and life-size statues of Disney characters made entirely of LEGOs. At Build-A-Bear Workshop, you can customize a teddy bear, starting from scratch with the bearskin, stuffing it, and then accessorizing it.

Getting Oriented

Downtown Disney is laid out in a straight line beginning West near Disneyland Hotel and ending East at the esplanade between Disneyland and Disney California Adventure.

If you park in and enter from the Downtown Disney parking lot you'll first see Earl of Sandwich, ESPN Zone, and the AMC theater. If you enter from the Mickey & Friends tram load/unload area, or by walking through the esplanade, you'll first see La Brea Bakery & Cafe and the World of Disney shop.

Downtown Disney Parking

You can park for free for up to 2 hours in the Downtown Disney parking lot and get 2 additional free hours with validation from AMC Theaters or select table-service dining restaurants. Additional hours cost $6 each every 30 minutes up to a $36 daily maximum. Valet parking is available after 5 p.m. at Downtown Disney for $12 in additional to any parking fee, up to $48 daily total.

Downtown Disney Monorail Station

The monorail is a futuristic transportation ride that takes guests from Downtown Disney to Tomorrowland inside Disneyland. The wait to board is usually 15–25 minutes and a valid Disneyland ticket is required to enter.

The monorail does not provide service during the evening fireworks at Disneyland Park and ceases to bring guests into the park 30 minutes before closing.
